Terms of Use
These Terms govern your use of the Family Collab app and website. By using the Service you agree to them. Please read them carefully.
1. About these Terms
These Terms of Use (the Terms) form a binding agreement between you and the operator of Family Collab ("Family Collab," "we," or "us"). Family Collab is currently operated by Joseph Dentrone, an individual residing in Texas, doing business as Family Collab. Operation will transition to Family Collab LLC (a Texas limited liability company) upon its formation; the operator change will be announced on this page with an updated effective date.
The Family Collab mobile application (the App) and the website at familycollab.app (the Site) are together the Service. By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
2. The Service
Family Collab helps households coordinate day-to-day life — tasks, lists, meal planning, calendar, budget, and related utilities — across the family members you invite. Features change over time. We may add, modify, or discontinue features at our discretion.
The Service may be offered as a beta, preview, TestFlight build, or early-access release. Early versions may be incomplete, may change quickly, and may contain bugs or data issues. You should keep your own copies of information you cannot afford to lose.
3. Eligibility and account
- You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. Users between 13 and 18 must have a parent or guardian's permission.
- You must provide accurate sign-up information and keep it current.
- You are responsible for activity on your account. Keep your password secure and notify security@familycollab.app right away if you suspect unauthorized access.
- You may not create an account for someone else without their authorization, or share your account credentials with anyone else.
4. Your content
The content you create in Family Collab — tasks, lists, meal plans, calendar entries, budget items, photos of receipts, and similar records (your Content) — belongs to you. You grant Family Collab a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, transmit, display, modify (only as needed for technical operations such as resizing, format conversion, and indexing), and otherwise process your Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you and the family members you share it with. This license ends when you delete your Content or close your account, except as described in our Privacy Policy with respect to backups and required record-keeping.
You represent that you own or have the necessary rights to the Content you submit, and that submitting it does not violate the rights of any third party or any law.
5. Family sharing
The Service is built around shared household spaces. When you join a family, the other members of that family can see and interact with the Content you contribute to that family. You are responsible for choosing which families you join and what you contribute to them. Family admins may be able to manage roles, permissions, membership, and shared records within their family. We are not responsible for disputes among family members about invitations, roles, permissions, removals, or Content created in shared spaces.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to violate any law or to infringe anyone's rights.
- Upload or share unlawful, harassing, hateful, defamatory, or sexually explicit content.
- Attempt to access another user's account or another family's data.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive the source code of the App except where applicable law expressly permits.
- Interfere with the Service, attempt to overwhelm it with traffic, probe it for vulnerabilities without authorization, or bypass our rate limits and security controls.
- Use the Service or our backend systems (including the recipe-import browser renderer) as a general-purpose web scraping, content extraction, or proxy service.
- Misrepresent who you are, including impersonating others.
- Use the Service to send spam or unsolicited messages.
7. Recipe import and AI features
Recipe import, receipt parsing, and similar features rely on third-party AI models and on fetching content from third-party websites. These features may be unavailable, fail to extract correctly, or produce incorrect output. They are provided as conveniences only. Always verify important details (allergens, quantities, dates, merchants, totals, and event times) before relying on them.
The browser-rendering service used internally for some recipe imports is a private backend dependency, not a public tool, and you do not receive any right to use it independently of the App.
8. Calendar, notifications, reminders, and sensitive information
The Service may surface schedule, reminder, or notification information. Do not use it as your sole source of medical, financial, legal, or emergency information. Networked notifications can fail or be delayed.
Budget tools, receipt imports, cycle tracking, calendar overlays, and similar features are for household organization only. They are not financial, tax, legal, medical, fertility, contraceptive, safety, or emergency advice. Always use your own judgment and consult a qualified professional for decisions that matter.
9. Pricing
Family Collab is currently free to use. We may introduce paid plans or in-app purchases in the future. If we do, we will publish prices in the App and update these Terms before charging you. Apple's App Store payment terms will govern any in-app purchases on iOS.
10. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access (with or without notice, where lawful) for violations of these Terms, security incidents, suspected abuse, or where required by law.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including those covering your representations, indemnification, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law, and dispute resolution — survive termination of these Terms.
11. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE." To the maximum extent permitted by law, Family Collab disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranties arising from course of dealing or usage of trade. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, error free, or that any defects will be corrected.
We do not guarantee that Content will be preserved, synchronized, imported, parsed, notified, backed up, or recoverable. You are responsible for maintaining separate records of important household, financial, medical, school, legal, or emergency information.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will Family Collab be liable to you for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of the Service, even if Family Collab has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Family Collab's aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or related to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the total amounts you paid to Family Collab for the Service in the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars (US$100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so the limitations in this section may not apply to you in full.
13. Indemnification
You will indemnify and hold harmless Family Collab and its operators, employees, and agents from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, made by any third party arising out of or related to (a) your Content, (b) your use of the Service in violation of these Terms or applicable law, or (c) your violation of any third-party right.
14. Governing law and dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Subject to the next paragraph, any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Travis County, Texas, and you and Family Collab consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.
Informal resolution first. Before filing any claim, you agree to first contact us at legal@familycollab.app and give us a reasonable opportunity (at least sixty (60) days) to resolve the dispute informally. Most issues can be addressed quickly this way.
No class actions. To the maximum extent permitted by law, disputes must be brought only in an individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective, consolidated, private attorney general, or representative proceeding.
Jury trial waiver. To the maximum extent permitted by law, you and Family Collab waive any right to a jury trial for disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service.
15. Apple-specific terms
If you obtained the App from Apple's App Store, you acknowledge that these Terms are between you and Family Collab, not Apple, and that Apple has no responsibility for the App or its content. Apple is, however, a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to the extent these Terms are silent.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make a material change, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the App or by email. Your continued use of the Service after the updated Terms take effect constitutes your acceptance of those changes. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, stop using the Service.
17. Miscellaneous
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and Family Collab concerning the Service. If any part of these Terms is held unenforceable, the rest will remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent; we may assign them in connection with a corporate reorganization or sale of the business.
